Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young people? The Lighthouse Afterhours Diversionary and Bail support Service is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Support Worker to join our team. This vital role provides a safe and supportive environment for at-risk youth during afterhours, offering guidance, connection, and meaningful engagement when it’s needed most. This is a Part time fixed term position until June 2028.

Your Contribution

The Youth Support Worker is responsible for the provision of, appropriate care, client programs and activities, and provision of case planning and case management tasks as directed by coordinator.

All services will be delivered in line with the programs Duty of Care and align with the established protocols of the organisation and the Service Agreement. This role will work collaboratively with Community Gro Upper Ross Youth Hub to redirect high-risk youth to the Lighthouse/Bail Support and also support referrals to TAIHS programs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  1. Qualification/s relevant to the field of Youth Work or a related field of discipline, with a minimum of a Certificate IV. Eg: Certificate IV in Youth Work or Certificate IV in Community Services or enrolled in relevant course and/or willingness to obtain qualification within an agreed timeframe
  2. Previous experience within the youth sector providing advocacy and support to young people
  3. Demonstrated ability to operate within a case management model
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the barriers and issues faced by young people
  5. Demonstrated ability to provide activities and supports that genuinely interest and engage young people, empowering them to make positive choices

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develop, deliver, and evaluate client programs relevant to client base needs, including but not limited to:
    • Healthy lifestyle programs
    • Substance misuse programs
    • Personal development programs
    • Life skill developmentEducation/employment/workforce readiness
  2. Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients whilst nurturing and supporting clients to develop the skills needed to engage in non-criminal activity
  3. Regularly reviewing and updating client plans and recording actions
  4. Participating in referral meetings if required or as directed
  5. Participate in conducting strengths and needs assessments
  6. Provide information, support, and advocacy for clients as necessary
  7. Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, nurturing, empowering and supporting clients while assisting in the development of their activities needed to engage in non-at risk taking behaviours
  8. Liaise with the Practice Lead in relation to all client related matters, including client needs, engagement, issues, observations or concerns
  9. Provide any relevant data and information regarding service delivery as required and/or as directed
  10. Maintain necessary client and operational information including logbooks and case notes daily
  11. Ensure secure management of all program files and compliance with applicable privacy legislation and policies
  12. Complete monthly activity and evaluation reports compiled if required or as directed
  13. Work in partnership with stakeholders to coordinate and deliver activities to support and engage vulnerable young people

Required Licenses and Checks

  1. Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records
  2. Current Blue Card (Queensland’s Working with Children Check)
  3. Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
  4. Proof of qualifications and current registration (as appropriate) are to be provided prior to commencement of employment
  5. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
  6. Offer of the position may be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process.
